From October 29 to 30, 2018, a joint workshop on the topic "Challenges in the Analysis of Ancient Scripts in the Digital Age" took place in Heidelberg. The workshop was organized by Svenja A. Gülden (AKU Project, Mainz), Hubert Mara (Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR) / Forensic Computational Geometry Laboratory, University of Heidelberg), and Christian Prager (Text Database and Dictionary of Classical Maya, North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Düsseldorf).
Topics included:
- Interdisciplinary collaboration between computer science and the humanities
- Computer-aided analysis of writing systems from ancient Egypt, the ancient Near East, and the Maya
- 3D and 2D documentation technologies for text and script
- New methods for digital paleography
- Requirements and standards for sustainable use
